A Mother's Day Gift Guide
My son's the ultimate Mother's Day gift, but hey, presents never hurt.
I could celebrate being Cassius’s Mom every day. It’s my favorite title and favorite job I’ve ever had. Having gone through life thus far, I’ve learned some good stuff on my own. I’ve learned valuable lessons about life from my parents, from certain circumstances and people, romantic relationships, old friends and new, deleted friends, random people on the street, my analyst. But nothing comes close to what I’ve learned from my son. He’s taught me so many valuable things and lessons so far and he’s only two and a half!
Cassius is truly my greatest teacher and opened or reopened my eyes to life in a way I had forgotten. I’ve found it incredible to be around a little human learning the world for the first time. Everything is new, everything is exciting, everything is magical. His life right now is constant learning. He’s observing, trying, failing, and trying again, figuring it all out. When you’ve been on this planet for a bit, it’s very easy to be jaded and take things for granted and forget the wild ride we are all on. Life. It’s quite easy to not be excited by many things at a certain age because nothing is that surprising anymore after a while. This is growing up and getting older, our life gets filled with all these experiences and depending on your life you might feel like there are few things that you encounter that truly surprise you. I’ve had this feeling for sure throughout my life. But I’ve found the people that are most inspiring to me are the ones that are still discovering and asking the questions and staying present and hungry to the world around them. I’m always striving to be more like that. To stay in the moment and stay curious.
Often, I’ve had to remind myself to look for the magic and the joy and to seek out what really excites me. With my son, everyday is like this. I love seeing the world through his eyes and getting re-enchanted. He’s my great teacher.
I watched him eat a vanilla ice cream cone the other day and it was the most pure thing I had seen all day. Every lick was new, discovering the flavor and temperature of the ice cream resting on his tongue. The coldness of every bite. The smile on his face as it dripped all over his shirt. The strength at which he hung on to that cone. The satisfaction of having a cold delight on a hot day. IT WAS THE BEST.
Here are a few Mother’s Day items that could be fun gifts…
FLOWERS
I met these guys on the street the other day and really liked their vibe The Botanical Brothers (if you’re in the NYC area and into just a natural and simple flower selection, what I like personally)
BLING
Dorsey’s heart ID is a perfect gift for moms and the women in your life. I’m sort of last minute, so if you're customizing, which I highly recommend, it might not arrive in time for Mother’s Day. Very much worth the wait!
The Kate Rivière Necklace which is always sold out is available and can ship in 2-days, in time for Mother’s Day. This feels like a good gift to yourself, too.
A Zodiac Ring or pendant is a cool gift to put your child’s or your sign on, I love this Zodiac Ring and this Pendant, too!
OTHER GIFT IDEAS
A Facial is always great because they do say that having a child ages the collagen in your bod, but so worth it! So for a little Mom pick me up, two of my fave spots in NYC are Feed Your Skin and Practice and for Los Angeles I love Carasoin
For the super cool Mom, I thought this would be pretty rad. This Super73 Electric Bike is HOT
I love the idea of getting a Vintage men’s ID bracelet engraved
Or maybe the best gift of all is a card saying Happy Mother’s Day, Mom, I love you.
I hope you all have a great Mother’s Day filled with all the love!
xx,
Em
Happy Mother’s Day!!
Happy Mothers Day Em. It never grows old to see and learn from The people you love.
