Classic with a pop brought to you by MATCHES
curating my closet to classic pieces and the occasional flair
Hey Friends,
I’m a little late to the after New Year’s party here. But I’m here! Welcome back! Actually, it's exactly the way I intended to start the year off. Not pushing too hard and doing things at the right moment.
So here we are. Let's kick it off with shopping, but not just any shopping—shopping for the right stuff, with intention behind it. For me, I’ve been really trying to curate my closet with items I really really love—classics, a little vintage and a few very special pieces that make an outfit. I know people that know me well are reading this and laughing right now (stoppppppp!) because my closet definitely says otherwise. I’m working on it! I still have some sifting to do to get this dialed in. Let’s focus on the now and what’s in front of us, which is MATCHES One of my all-time favorite online sites the one I check daily, and I always have items in my cart.
I was lucky enough to buddy up with them and sift through their MAJOR selections to find the right pieces for me. I found a couple of sweaters, two great shoes, and a very special POP piece. And MATCHES was kind enough to share a code for all of you EMILY15 for 15% off for any new customers.
I am thrilled about all these pieces. Starting from the top I chose this The Row Canal Loafer, a little burgundy loafer because they reminded me of a shoe/slipper my Papa wore all his life. You can wear them regularly or folded down in the back for a more casual vibe. I adore burgundy with navy like this Classic Navy Cardigan by &Daughter. There’s something decadent about the tones together. So here’s a little look into how I’d wear them around town (or at home).
I also love this &Daughter Classic Thick Grey Sweater, for many reasons… it’s super cozy and warm and it reminds me of the Row Ophelia Sweater for wayyyyyyyy less $$$. So that’s a plus! It’s roomy enough that you can layer under if it’s freezing out. I’m currently wearing it while I’m writing this!
I’m not the best at “going out” outfits, I usually kinda wear what I wear during the day and then throw on a fancier bag or shoe, something that maybe pops a bit more. So this Silver Chainmail Bag will go a lonnnnnnng way. And throw on a little boot and you’re good to go. I air on the more casual side, so focusing on upping my game in the bag and shoe dept for the evening helps me pull things together a bit. I love these Khaite Suede Boot, they are super comfy, I like the heel height because I usually prefer flats and am late often…so I can run fast in them too. The color is GREAT—just enough of a pop for my usual all-black outfit.
There are many other ways to style these pieces with a million other items. That’s the thing about classics, they are forever pieces that you won’t get tired of and why I love them. In the shopping zone, I'm starting out the New Year with the intention of shopping for needs—things that hold value or that I love so much I won’t get tired of, items I can pair with the rest of my closet. Smart shopping!
When I ponder all this—focusing on the essentials, decluttering the chaos, and cherishing those timeless pieces—I can't help but envision my grandma's closet. She rocked her outfits repeatedly, with forever pieces that stood the test of time. That's the goal I'm chasing. I'm always aspiring to emulate my Grandma Doris—classic, vintage, timeless. Those words perfectly capture who she was. So, send good vibes my way as I embark on the journey to curate a closet as fabulous as Grandma Doris's
x,
Emily
